Meva Lite Formwork: The Field Checklist I Use Before Every Accessory Order

I've been handling formwork orders for a concrete contractor since 2017. In the first two years, I made—and documented—three mistakes that cost the company just under $7,400 in wasted material, replacement hardware, and redo. That's why I now run every order through a checklist.

This one is for Meva formwork. More specifically, it's for anyone ordering Meva Lite formwork and accessories for a project where the schedule is tight and the budget isn't forgiving. Seven steps. Each one has a pass/fail check.

1. Confirm the exact system variant before you count anything

Meva Lite and Meva Imperial are both good systems, but they're not interchangeable. Their connection points, panel frames, and load ratings are different. If you're renting or buying, ask for the series code and match every component to that series before you start counting panels.

On one of my first projects, I ordered “Meva formwork” and assumed every panel would bolt together. Halfway through the first setup, we realized a Lite panel didn't connect to the Imperial waling bracket we'd ordered. That oversight cost us a morning and $460 in site-fabricated brackets.

Check: Does every panel, waling, tie rod, and accessory share the same series family and load class?

2. Count panels from the pour plan, not from square footage

It's tempting to estimate panel quantities by wall area and add a few extras. That ignores corners, pilasters, tie spacing, and panel overlaps. It also ignores the way concrete pressure concentrates at wall transitions.

I once ordered 20 flat panels and zero corner panels for a small foundation. (ugh) That error added a three-day delay and $890 in expedited freight. The lesson: draw the pour plan first, then count. A 5–10% buffer isn't “extra”—it's a repair budget.

Check: Does your panel count include corners, bulkheads, transitions, and a 5–10% repair buffer?

3. Review the Meva formwork accessories list line by line

Meva formwork accessories are where hidden leaks happen. A single tie rod might cost $2.50, but a missing tie rod on pour day can stop a crew for half a day. That's not a $2.50 problem; it's a $700 problem.

The accessories I frequently see overlooked: tie rod cones, wing nuts, she bolts, panel hooks, alignment braces, and waler clamps. If your supplier lists “assorted accessories” without quantities, that's a red flag. Do not let the sales rep “check it later.”

Check: Does every line item on the accessory list match the number of connections and tie locations on your drawings?

4. Ask what's NOT included before you accept a price

I've learned to ask “what's NOT included” before “what's the price.” That one question has saved me more money than any discount. Because no one's gonna hand you the full price list unless you ask.

Some quotes include delivery but not unloading. Some include cleaning of returned panels, some don't. Some quote a two-week rental but bill on a 30-day cycle. None of this is malicious; it's just how the industry works. The vendor who lists all fees upfront—even if the total looks higher—usually costs less in the end.

Think about the last time you bought a phone. The advertised price didn't include the screen protector, and the total bill was the real cost. Formwork quotes work the same way.

Check: Has your supplier confirmed delivery, pickup, cleaning, replacement, and late-return costs in writing?

5. Verify the load ratings on paper

Don't accept “it's heavy duty” as a specification. If you're buying in the U.S., per FTC guidelines (ftc.gov), product claims like this need to be truthful and substantiated. Ask for the actual load table for the exact panel series you're ordering.

People think more ties always means more strength. Actually, more ties only help if the connection system is designed for it. Otherwise, you're just adding hardware and labor without adding capacity.

Check: Does your formwork design fall within the published load and pressure limits for the system you're ordering?

6. Inspect the delivery before you sign the ticket

I know drivers are in a hurry. I used to be in a hurry too until September 2022, when I signed for 60 Meva panels and didn't inspect them. Three days later we found five bent corners and a missing she-bolt. The supplier said “needs to be noted on the delivery ticket.” $1,150 disappeared because I didn't want to inconvenience anyone.

Take photos of any damage with your phone before unloading. The timestamp is your evidence.

Check: Count panels and serial numbers, inspect corner channels and weld joints, and open every accessory box before signing.

7. Do a dry setup on the ground before the first pour

Reserve two to three hours for a mock setup of one bay. Use the actual panels and accessories you plan to use. This catches wrong hardware, missing parts, and confusion before you have concrete in the truck.

If you think you don't have time for a dry run, consider this: the one time we skipped it, the crew used mismatched walers on the first lift. We stopped at 11 a.m. and spent $420 on rework. The dry run would have caught it in 20 minutes.

Check: Has the foreman signed off on a mock alignment, tie spacing, and brace plan for each unique wall type?

Common mistakes that still show up

It's tempting to compare unit price per square foot and stop there. But identical specs from different vendors can result in wildly different outcomes. I've seen a slightly higher per-panel quote end up cheaper once freight and missing hardware are factored in.

People also assume rush orders cost more because they're harder. In my experience, they cost more because they're unpredictable and disrupt planned workflows. Plan the accessory order a week out and you can avoid most of that “surprise” tax.

When I compared our first three rushed Meva Lite orders to the three after we implemented this checklist, the difference was obvious: about 30% less spent on emergency freight and replacement parts. That's not a rounding error.

I do not mean used panels are always a bad deal. I mean you have to check them the same way you check new ones. A bent tie rod or a skipped weld on a secondhand panel can compromise the whole wall.

Since we started using this checklist in 2023, we've caught 47 potential errors before they hit the pour. Some were as small as a missing bolt; a few were as large as the wrong panel series. I wish I'd had this list in 2017. (note to self: I still need to make a laminated version for the site trailer.)

One more thing: don't trust your memory on quantities. If I remember correctly, our worst shortage was about 40 tie cones—but I might be misremembering the exact number. The point is, it was a stupid mistake that happened because I “knew” what was in the box.
